Benefits of a Transition Bridge with All-on-X Implants

  • October 12, 2023

When your new All-on-X is placed our dentists will have already tackled several steps of dental implant treatment in a single appointment. They will also secure a high-quality transition bridge on the same day as your implant surgery, giving you a functional set of teeth right from the start. Today we’d like to inform you of the benefits to a transition bridge and why you should always begin your All-on-X journey in this manner.

What Is A Transition Bridge

Transitional bridges are typically created from acrylic and allow the implants to heal properly without the ability to place too much pressure on the implant.

Why Does Stubbs Dental Use Transition Bridges?

During the healing process of the All-on-X surgery the mouth is going to change considerably. Things such as bone levels, gum swelling, surgical sites closing can change the shape of your mouth and how the prosthetic will rest. Waiting to receive the final bridge after healing is complete allows for a perfect fit after the mouth is healed and no more changes are taking place.

This also allows our patients to live with and experience their new teeth, which gives them the ability to make any cosmetic changes they wish before their finals. The final bridge is then custom designed and formed from zirconia which is the strongest and longest lasting material available for the All-on-X prosthetic. At Stubbs Dental we don’t believe in a cookie cutter approach, and allow complete customization to perfectly fit the needs and wants of each individual patient.

Dangers of Skipping the Transition Bridge

Receiving the final set of teeth the day after surgery tends to give the patient a poor outcome. As the mouth shifts the bridge can become uncomfortable and ill fitting after healing is complete. These bridges are also often “hybrids” (created from a titanium bar and acrylic) and are prone to breaking within the first year or two.
